A Bell Atlantic representative will discuss Infospeed DSL service features, benefits, pricing, availability, competitive alternatives, and the technology that it is based upon, ADSL. /user/comm/mem-ben.html Contact: FREE SEMINAR SATURDAY, APRIL 17! Presented by: Door Prize Drawings for CPCUG Members Only
Cost: Date: Time: Location: Map: Parking: Metro: Seminar Description--Brief: Seminar Description--Detailed: The CPCUG Build Team updates this seminar three times a year, and you will learn the latest news on BIOS (basic input/output system), CPU (central processing unit), memory, monitors, motherboards, and much more!
The seminar includes extensive discussion about pricing and vendor issues. Two vendors will be present to answer questions.
This seminar will help you understand what you're buying. For example, a common monitor specification is "0.28 dot pitch." Well, what exactly is dot pitch, anyway? At this seminar you'll learn that dot pitch is a measure of the resolution, or image sharpness, that a monitor can display, and that 0.28 is the minimum you should accept on a 15-inch monitor. Anything less than that and the image will be fuzzy, leading to fatigue and eyestrain.
Prerequisite: NOTE: You must attend this seminar to register for the next "Build Your Own PC" Workshop because you will be assigned your mentor at this seminar.

For Immediate Release: January 19, 1999 On Thursday, January 21st, the Capital PC User Group, Inc. (CPCUG), will host a tribute to seven technology businesses (ATI Technologies, Casady & Greene, Inc., Corel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, Qualitative Marketing, Inc., Philips Speech Processing, and SAIC/General Sciences Corporation) and two institutes (Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute and the Morino Institute) at its first annual awards reception headed by U.S. Representative Connie Morella at Rockville's Lone Oak Center (12:30 to 2:30 p.m.). The purpose of this event is to honor organizations that have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to "Bridging the Technology Gap" in the Washington Metropolitan Area by providing computer hardware and software that benefits all people regardless of age, race, abilities, ethnic, social, and economic background. "We are excited about our partnership with CHI Centers, Inc., a not-for-profit agency which has over a half a century of experience supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities. That organization made this location available for our use in This Grand Opening commemorates the establishment of the first Partners in Technology (PIT) Center. It is the creation of the Capital PC User Group, Inc. (CPCUG), and is but one of several that will open throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The goal is to extend these partnerships to make computer technology training widely available to all people. This site will serve the various training needs of the community. There will be classes focusing on computer technology for after-school programs, as well as classes assisting individuals with disabilities to transition into the workforce. Mainstream classes will continue, of course, but it is our new partnership with other nonprofit organizations and corporations that will allow CPCUG to leverage both human and financial resources. Ms. Milliner said, "We need to remember that everyone has something to bring to the technology table, but a good banquet always has variety. Thus, we are proudest of the different organizations and individuals that have contributed to our 'Partners in Technology' Program. If this program is to flourish we must respect the diversity our technology vendors can and do bring to the community. CPCUG is an independent, non-profit user group dedicated to educating computer users.
For more information on the reception or Partner in Technology Center, please contact Lillian Milliner at 301-258-2906 (h), 301-762-9372 (o).
